Description

Messier 55, also known as NGC 6809, is a magnitude 6.3 globular cluster in the south of the constellation Sagittarius. It is about 19 arcminutes across and about 17,600 light-years away from Earth.  It is around 12.3 Billion Years old and has very low metallicity and very few variable stars.

I would normally pack it in and get some rest but conditions got even better as the temperature dropped so with persistent re-focusing I pressed on, hoping to see some of the promised Piscis Austrinids, Southern Delta Aquariids and Alpha Capricornids  meteors. Sadly nary a one but it was bit  too cold to stay outside  too long.
Maybe tonight, as they will peak , so I will leave a DSLR camera running and try my luck. Considering how rubbish the weather has been lately this is about as good as it gets.

This time the overall data quality was very good. I just used NSG, Drizzle, Linear Fit and Generalised Hyperbolic stretch  then with a very basic range mask, Curves and Histogram Transfomation. I just discovered Bill Blanshan's fantastic Pixelmath scripts for Star Reduction and tweaked one of those and used it with StarXterminator. Very quick and the best results I have seen and takes almost no time. Impressive! Finally cleaned up with a gentle application of NoiseXterminator.
I don't feel the need to gather any more data on this one so tonight the universe is my oyster and I'll see what Stellarium suggests is well placed.
Fingers crossed the only bright lights I will see will coruscating fireballs and not my neighbours LEDs.
